Why Locals Love Javier's Restaurant - Newport Beach

Nestled along the stunning Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, Javier's Restaurant offers an upscale Mexican dining experience that perfectly blends vibrant flavors with a breathtaking oceanfront atmosphere. This renowned Mexican restaurant and bar is a culinary haven for those seeking bold, authentic Mexican cuisine elevated with a contemporary touch.

Step inside to discover a captivating ambiance where the recent remodel transports you to a lively coastal retreat, rich with elegant decor and a welcoming energy. Whether you’re settling in for a romantic dinner or a celebratory gathering, Javier’s thoughtfully crafted atmosphere enhances every moment with the soothing backdrop of ocean views and spectacular sunsets.

The menu is a treasure trove of signature dishes that showcase the best of Mexican flavors and culinary craftsmanship. Start your meal with the exquisite Aguachile Del Rey, a tantalizing medley of callo de hacha (scallops), shrimp, and octopus, served with a vibrant, spicy marinade—each bite bursting with fresh, oceanic delight. Salads like the Ensalada de Asada offer a refreshing interplay of crisp greens, avocado, roasted corn, and perfectly grilled Angus Prime skirt steak drizzled with a honey-mustard vinaigrette, balancing hearty and light flavors masterfully.

Main courses elevate traditional favorites: the Costilla de Res Osso Bucco features tender, slow-braised short ribs bathed in a rich tomato and serrano sauce that’s deeply satisfying, while the Mole Poblano, a long-time fan favorite, presents a bone-in airline chicken breast drenched in a complex, perfectly balanced mole sauce—neither too sweet nor overwhelming, just the right touch of heat and depth. For those craving classic comfort, the Milanesa de Pollo is a crispy pan-fried breaded chicken breast accompanied by smooth mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus, a dish that comforts and delights with each mouthful.

Javier’s is also a spot to be seen, where the stylish crowd admires enviable cars in the parking lot, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. While some guests note that weekend nights can get busy, and occasionally wait times stretch beyond expectations, the overall dining experience remains well worth it thanks to the attentive service, exceptional food quality, and the unmatched setting.

Longtime patrons praise the consistent excellence here. One reviewer affectionately calls Javier’s their go-to for over 30 years, highlighting the incomparable mole and the fresh, flavorful salsas that keep customers coming back. Another visitor celebrates the birthday experience with rave reviews on everything from guacamole to churros, underscoring the menu’s variety and the care poured into each dish.

I have not been too Javier's since 2023 and I love the new remodel. It made me feel like I was in a different country, I love the new decor and the atmosphere was great. I ordered a short ribs, and my friend ordered the pork chop, both were delicious. Just don't go on the weekends as he gets packed. I went on a Wednesday and it was busy too.

Javier’s in Newport Beach has such a great vibe and a beautiful oceanfront location.it’s always a stunning place to go. The food was delicious as expected, but it took more than 50 minutes for our dishes to arrive. I know weekends can get really busy, but I honestly expected a bit more from Javier’s in terms of timing and service. Still, the atmosphere and flavors made it an enjoyable visit overall, just be prepared for a longer wait on busy days.

This is a very upscale Mexican place to see and be seen in Orange County. For car aficionados the parking lot has a lot of eye candy. The food was very good but everything is overpriced. The biggest draw is the beautiful sunsets. Valet parking also costs $17. Good to experience once but will most likely not be back.

My favorite restaurant for the last 30+ years. The Newport Beach location provides a calm and scenic atmosphere. The Enchiladas Poblanos is the best! I’ve had mole all over the world and nothing compares to Javier’s recipe, not to thick or sweet, just the right amount of heat with a ton of flavor paired with moist shredded chicken. Chef’s kiss!! Their salsa is the best I’ve ever had and I’ve tried everything. My favorite drink is the Black Mamba. Soooo good! Service is always spot on. Overall, nothing is better than Javier’s. Worth every penny.

Hi Everyone (who sees this review & Javier’s Management) : We visited this restaurant around Dec’2025 at Dinner to celebrate a birthday event. Overall, the experience was amazing and we enjoyed thoroughly. Ambiences were really nice and great exp. to be there. Food was fantastic! We ordered following items : (1) Guacamole (2) Quesadilla (3)Pollo Chipotle (4) Churros (5) Flan (6) 2 Drinks (Tamarindo Margarita) Overall food was very tasty but Guacamole and Quesadilla need a special call out — deserts were amazing too. Service, Food and Atmosphere everywhere I have rated 5. Special call out — When I booked I mentioned that birthday event and to arrange for a table from where sunset can be seen. They did that nicely and one of the best service. Best part — you can enjoy the ocean and sunset both from your dinning area; it’s so beautiful !! Pl see my photos for details. Overall, our experience was very nice! Will definitely visit again!

It had been along time since our last visit, also we wanted to see the restaurant after remodel. Here are my takeaways: 1. The place and view is spectacular, so beautiful, so vibrant, so electrified. 2. Jarvier's margaritas: 3/5 - good but not great or knocking my socks off because I didn't get flavor of fresh lime, not tangy and sweet balanced. No doubts that the liquors are high quality. The pineapple margarita was very good, with real fresh pineapple flavor. 3. Guacamole: 2.5/5 - average and bland. Need more lime juice and salt, also needs more flavors of sweet onion and cilantro. 4. Enchiladas, relleno, and taco : 3.5/5 - good but not great. The beef enchilada was pretty good, chile relleno was pretty good and flavorful. The red sauce was very good, not spicy nor bitter neither salty. The chicken taco was so average and the crispy taco was kinda stale. I asked for double black beans instead of beans and rice, the black beans were ok, not thick at all, not whole lot of flavors and taste. 5. Rice and bean: 3/5 - mixed bag. Rice was average and a bit salty, however the refried beans was delicious, so creamy, tasty, and flavorful. Also rice and or beans is extra for some dishes. This is tacky because they dont cost that much but for Nickle and Dime here and there is ridiculous. Cheap. 6. Birria: 4/5 - delicious but abit soupy, great flavors and taste, not salty nor spicy nor bitter of chillies. It would be better served with plain steamed rice vs tortillas... So, overalls were a mix bag of experience...if you want the ambiance then this is all about. If you want really authentic Mexican dishes and not concerned of breaking your bank then it is not in my opinion. The reason I gave 4 stars because for the sake of ambiance .

Went here on a busy Sunday and got sat with my family pretty quickly. All the food came out expeditiously and was incredible. The guac was amazing, hard not to get full on chips. I got a skirt steak cooked to perfection, and you must get the street corn. Insane. Wanted to take a bucket of it home. Great atmosphere as well. Lots of beautiful people. You’ll love if you like Mexican food but also lots of other dishes available. Wanted to get the deep fried ice cream but was too full We’ll be back

Javier’s is always a yes. We sat at the bar and had the best mezcal cocktails I’ve had anywhere—perfectly balanced and dangerously smooth. We shared fajitas, which were flavorful, generous, and ideal for grazing while soaking it all in. The people watching alone is worth the visit. The bartenders were incredibly attentive and friendly despite how busy the place was, which says a lot. It’s a massive, beautiful space with stunning scenery right across from the ocean—lively, upscale, and fun without feeling stuffy. Already counting the days until our next OC visit because this is absolutely a repeat stop.
